Container gantry crane is a type of large wharf gantry crane which at container terminals for loading and unloading intermodal containers. It is available with span of 5~8 containers wide (plus a truck width) and with lifting height from 1 over 3 to 1 over 6 containers high.

Structure of the container gantry crane
Container gantry crane composed of a gantry structure that can traverse the length of a wharf or yard on a rail. Instead of general hook, container gantry crane equipped with a specialized handling tool usually we called it spreader, which will be lowered on top of the container and used for locks onto the container’s four corner casting. Gantry crane normally lift one set container at once.

According to the demand of the container yard, the lifting height of the rail-type container gantry crane is determined by the stack of three or four or four or five piles.
